The Best Egg Recipes for Babies and Toddlers

Eggs. Such a little perfect combination of nutrients and flavor. Eggs are a wonderful and complete first food for babies.

Eggs are a great source of protein, good fats (high in DHA omega-3), vitamin B, D, folate, choline, an important micronutrient that is beneficial for the brain and nervous system .

All your baby needs for a proper brain, nervous and vision development and cell and bone building. Impressive, don’t you think?

Eggs can be introduced in a baby’s diet starting from the very beginning, 6 months of age. There are so many ways you can add eggs in your baby/toddler meal schedule.

HOW TO SERVE EGGS TO MY BABY?

That’s where BuonaPappa can help 🙂

You can serve eggs by themselves either in omelette, frittata or hard boiled form OR you can serve them as main ingredient of a richer recipe.

OMELETTE/FRITTATA

Let’s start form the easy omelette or frittata.

Crack the egg, whisk it with a fork to add as much air as you can, it will make the frittata fluffy and pour in a non stick pan. If you are using non stick you don’t need any oil. Otherwise add 1 tsp olive or coconut or cooking oil. Cook at medium low 1 minute and flip on the other side. Cook for another 1 minute. Done!

How to serve it?

For 6 months babies – cut it in strips and serve

From 9 months up – cut in little pieces

Easy peasy and ready in 5 minutes.

If you would like a bit more flavor, check out my steamed parmesan frittata in this video (egg, milk, parmesan). You will love it too!

HARD BOILED EGGS

Another way to serve eggs to your baby is boiling them. Yep, hard boiled eggs.

How to cook? Fill a saucepan with cold water and place the egg in it. There should be one/two inches of water to cover the eggs. Bring the water to boil. Turn the heat off, cover and let it sit for 10/12 minutes.

Run cold water over the eggs and peel. You can hard boil the eggs and store them with the shell in the fridge for 5 days so that they will be ready to eat!

How to serve to babies?

  • 6 months: mash the egg with a fork and add 1 tbsp water or baby formula or breastmilk to create a thick paste and better combine white with yolk.
  • +9 months: you can cut the boiled egg in quarters

HOW TO SERVE EGGS WITH OTHER INGREDIENTS?

There are so many lovely baby and toddler friendly recipes that have eggs as the main ingredients. Both savory and sweet. Here some options here below. Try them out and let me know what you think in the comments below!

BREAKFAST EGG RECIPES

Egg, avocado and sweet potato baby puree. Lovely for babies but also yummy as a spread on toast for toddler..and moms.

Baby pasta with eggs and zucchini. One of the first pasta I offered to my little ones. Creamy and nutritious. You can use any kind of zucchini or substitute it with pumpkin or butternut squash for a sweeter variation.

Pancakes. They are egg based and such a soft recipe for little ones. You can really get creative here. I have many recipes to share with you. Let’s start with some grain free banana baby pancakes

Or maybe you want to try some savory recipes like the zucchini pancakes or the sweet peas ones.

If you want to stay on the sweet side, I can also suggest banana baby French toast, spinach almond waffles (soo good!) and zucchini avocado muffins. They are perfect for a lunchbox too!

If your little one likes more savory flavors, you can try offering a veggie frittata cut in stripes or small cubes pending the age. The zucchini frittata is great too, super delicate. And for a fun shape you can prepare some frittata veggie muffins or flourless egg muffins.

If you have any pasta leftover, instead of simply reheating it, transform it into a spaghetti muffins recipe! I used spaghetti in the recipe, but any kind of pasta will work.

I can’t not mention the zucchini tortillas. Egg based and with that zucchini twist that makes them more appealing.

Those are all nutritious recipes where the egg plays an important role in the recipe. Let me know which is your favorite one!
