The easiest Lentil Broccoli Soup for your baby +10M

It only takes 20 min to prepare the easiest lentil Broccoli Soup for your baby! Nourishing and comforting, that’s why I like this soup 🙂 High iron, protein and fiber content.

It’s one of my kids favorite so far. Little one like it very creamy (the immersion blender does its part) and big one more chunky. I like it either ways 🙂

The soup is ready in 30min total from chopping the veggies to serving the cups at the table. It’s a one family = one meal recipe. If you have a baby you can easily serve him a portion without salt and than adjust with salt the remaining soup to serve to the rest of the family.

Considering the high amount of fibers in the recipe (lentil and broccoli) and the acidity from the tomatoes I would recommend it for babies starting from 10 months of age.

Which kind of lentils to use? I opted for the red ones. They are tender they cook faster and, once cooked, they are very creamy. Also, red lentils have less fiber than the other ones, and that means that they are easier to digest 🙂

Yellow lentils are also a great choice for baby food: they cook into a creamy and mushy texture. Their fiber content is low, like for the red lentils, and consequently they are easier to digest and they cause less gassiness.

You can also add or switch vegetables. My kids like broccoli so it’s an easy choice for me. Zucchini, spinach, chard, eggplants are also a nice idea. Either as a substitute or an addition to the soup.

The procedure is simple: in a large pot add 2 Tbsp of Extra Virgin olive oil, the minced carrots, minced celery, minced garlic and minced onion.

Sautee’ at medium heat for 3 minutes.

Meanwhile rinse the lentils under running water to remove any debris.

Add the lentils + fresh tomatoes chopped in pieces + tomato sauce + broccoli florets chopped + broth + thyme + cumin and salt (skip the salt for babies under 12 months).

Bring to boil, reduce to simmer, cover and cook for 15minutes.

Add the apple cider vinegar, stir and switch the heat off.

Serve warm or for a smoother consistency use and immersion blender to get a smooth puree.

I like to serve it with a drizzle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil on top, one teaspoon per portion to give extra nutrients and flavor.

This is a lovely meal for the whole family that your little one will be able to enjoy too!

Loaded with nutrients. Excellent protein and iron boosting recipe.

    Hello Barbara,
Thank you for this wonderful recipe. This is my second time making a big batch for my toddler. The following are the items that I omitted: celery, salt and vegetable broth. Overall, great food and will continue making this and making more of your tasty recipes.

You lost tomatoe sauce in the directions but not in the ingredient list so I’m not sure how much sauce to add?

Good catch! Thank you for noticing. It’s 3/4 cup of tomato sauce to be added with the chopped tomatoes. I use an Italian brand, Mutti, that only has tomatoes and a bit of salt in their sauces, no other ingredients or flavors. I fixed the recipe. Thanks again!
