Salmon Avocado Sweet Peas Spinach baby puree +6 months

My favorite baby recipes are the ones where with the same healthy ingredients you can prepare a lovely baby food for your little one and at the same time, without wasting anything, a delicious meal for the rest of the family!

One recipe. One family 😉

Today I had the pleasure to cook this recipe with my friend Bobby from www.FlavCity.com at the beautiful TasteMade Studios in Santa Monica. He was in charge of the Crispy Salmon and quinoa salad recipe and I (of course) prepared the Salmon, Avocado and Sweet Peas baby puree’. For the Crispy Salmon recipe, click the image below to see how to make it.

The Salmon, Avocado and Sweet Peas puree’ is a real baby super food, ideal for babies starting from 6 months.

Salmon is low in sodium and high in omega-3 fatty acids (wonderful for baby’s brain development). The pink fish is also a good source of thiamin, niacin, vitamin B6, and phosphorus and a very good source of protein, vitamin B12, and selenium. My suggestion is to buy a wild caught salmon and check that they didn’t add any artificial color to it (I was almost shocked to see “color” in the ingredients’ list to make it more “orange”!!!) If you are worried about the level of mercury contained in salmon and that it might be harmful to your baby, consider that being salmon a cold water fish, it contains a very low level of mercury, way lower than other fishes like tuna or swordfish. Not only, compared to other fishes, salmon has the higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids. It is considered safe to offer salmon to your baby starting from 6 months.

My suggestion is to prepare this puree’ and offer it to your baby once or twice a week. You can easily prepare the recipe and freeze the leftovers for up to 3 months.

Spinach. Being spinach in the “dirty dozen” list of foods loaded with pesticides is almost imperative that you buy organic spinach. It’s a wonderful source of Calcium and has good levels of Vitamin A and Iron. If you are worried about the level of nitrates contained in spinach consider that the amount of spinach in this recipe is moderate and very well balanced by the other ingredients.

Avocados are a wonderful first food for babies. The avocado adds fat and creaminess and makes the strong taste of spinach a little milder, helping to make it more palatable for your baby’s taste buds. Avocados are very low in cholesterol and sodium. The green fruit is also a good source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, protein, and healthy monounsaturated fat.

Sweet Peas: another super food for babies. Great nutritional values (protein, Calcium, Vitamin A and C) and a natural and delicate sweet flavor, a perfect balance to the spinach one.

Texture: pending your baby’s taste and age you can blend everything in a smooth puree or you can keep it chunkier just mashing the cooked ingredients with a fork and few tablespoons of thinning the liquid of your choice. If you want to know more about what to use to thin your baby food, click here.

This recipe can be easily be enjoyed by adults like a tasty dip with some crackers or like a pasta dressing 😉

Hi! Good question. Yes, you can use snow/Holland peas instead. They will be pureed so there is no big difference with green beans. Just make sure to remove any lining on the sides as that will not be blended when making the puree. Ciao! B
