Quinoa banana apple dates baby puree’

Quinoa is such a versatile ingredient, perfect for salads and at the same time for sweets. Even if it has the look and the taste of a whole grain, it’s a seed! It is very tasty by itself and has a lot of good properties: very high in proteins and gluten-free.

I really like cooking it for my family and it’s time to offer it to my little Alex. This recipe can work as a nice light sweet dessert for the family in a mashed version

quinoa puree

or as a baby puree for the little ones.

The recipe is fast and incredibly easy! Let’s start rinsing the quinoa under some water to avoid any bitterness that might be on the skin

Place the water in a small pan and let it boil. Than add the quinoa, stir, reduce the heat so that the quinoa will just simmer and let it cook for 7 min covered.

When the quinoa is half cooked it’s time to add the apples chopped in pieces and the dates chopped too. Cover again and let it simmer for 13/15 min.

Our quinoa fruity mix is cooked, let it cool down for few minutes.

In a bowl mash the banana and add the mix

Now you have two options: if you want to serve the quinoa as a dessert for the whole family, just mix all the ingredients leaving them in big pieces. Serve it warm, it’s delicious! You can always add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top 🙂

Or, if you are cooking for your little one, use an immersion mixer to blend everything in a smooth and creamy puree’.

As you can see in this recipe I didn’t use any sugar or sugar substitution, just natural sweet ingredients like bananas, dates and apples. Mixed together they will give a nice delicate sweet flavor to the whole recipe.

Enjoy!!

Hi! yes, considering the ingredients this recipe is safe for a 6 months baby. Just few comments:
      – consistency of the puree. Blend everything very well and if you need add some warm water or breast or formula milk to the blender to have a very smooth and running puree. At 6 months babies like very creamy and smooth texture.
      – dates. try to find natural ones without preservatives. In order to preserve dates (like other dry fruit) they use sulfates that are not recommended for babies. Check on the packaging, they should be obliged to write this information.
      – bananas. the riper the better. few brown dots on the skin will be perfect! it will be sweeter and easier to digest for your baby.
Let me know if your little one will like it!!! ciao!

Hi! Thank you so much 🙂 As I’m a busy mom with a baby and a toddler I asked a web designer agency to help me with the setting up of the website. Evenparsolutions it’s the name of the web agency (you will find the link at the bottom of the homepage). They have been amazing: they asked me what I wanted and delivered the website I had in my mind! They also taught me how to use WordPress to keep running my blog every week. I deeply recommend them.

How could I turn the basics of this recipe into my son’s 1st Birthday Cake? It sounds sweet and delicious, but I’m not sure if I would add a type of flour or what I would do to try to make a cake out of it. Advice please.

    Thanks!!!

      Hi Selena!
      uhhh, nice idea!
Let me think..this is what I would do. Cook the quinoa separately. Once it is cooked mix 1/2 Cup of wheat flour with 1/2 Cup of cooked quinoa, 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1/2 Cup yogurt, 2/3 Cup applesauce, 1 banana, 4 dates (mince them in tiny tiny tiny pieces) and 1 apple (same thing, cut the apple in very small pieces). Mix everything and fill a cupcake pan with the mix. A cupcake size is nice for a 1st bday cake. Bake the cupcakes in the pre heated oven at 350F for 20 min. Check if they are cooked with a toothpick inserted in the center. If it comes out dry they’re done. If you want to add a frosting you might like a simple cream cheese + apple sauce + vanilla extract mix.
I haven’t tried the recipe, so there might be few fixes to do. Let me know how it goes!!! ciao, b
